Samsung Electronics has made a series of new product announcements at CES as it seeks to reduce its reliance on semiconductors, despite announcing record profits. Its Chinese semiconductor imports – used both in its own products and by third parties – surged 94% higher in the three months to November 30 on a year earlier to reach $19.5 billion for the past year. That was led by shipments of DRAM from South Korea, accounting for 77% of its imports of semiconductors.
