The U.S. apparel materials supply chain appears to be a hotbed of competition. Imports of synthetic fabrics fell 5% in September, yet suppliers from China increased shipments by 26% while those from Turkey dropped 62%. Similarly nylon-based yarn suppliers from China, including Prutex and Liheng Polyamide, increased volumes 50% even though overall U.S. imports were unchanged. Staple fibres may be the next area for competitive action. Imports fell 12% in September, but South Korean manufacturers may return to growth after the ITC suspended an investigation late in the month.
