The Colombian government hopes to extend the ceasefire with the Marxist ELN group today, adding to the peace deal with FARC from November 2016. The cessation of most violence has yielded a peace dividend in trade, with export shipments that rose 8% in the third quarter on a year earlier. Yet, that may have been flattered by weak oil exports from Venezuela (as well as higher oil prices) – Colombian oil exports were 26% of the total by value in the past year. Furthermore weak global coffee exports (8% of Colombian exports) likely helped Colombian exporters, particularly to the U.S.
