Container-lines offering U.S.-inbound services saw a 5% growth in volumes on a year earlier in August, the 18th straight expansion. That was remarkable given there was a 3% decline in shipments from China, likely linked to the widening tariff war being pursued by the two countries. There was also a degree of draw-forward in volumes with shipments unchanged vs. July compared to a 4% average growth month-to-month in the past five years.
