Freight forwarders saw slowing import growth in the U.S. in August, with total volumes falling by 11.5% year over year, down from 14.7% year over year in July. Much of this may be attributed to a decline in growth rates from Europe, falling from 40.1% year over year in July to 16.9% in August. Imports from Chinese ports remained stable, increasing by 3.9% year over year, likely due to shutdowns in the ports of Yantian and Ningbo disrupting trade.
