Fiat Chrysler, Ford Accelerate Mexican Auto Exports

Cons. Discr. - Autos 1246 Mexico 928 U.S. 5398 USMCA 462

Mexican auto exports climbed 16% on a year earlier in April, bringing the three month average to a new high of 256,800 units per month. That echoes a pattern seen in Brazil where exports climbed 48% but was well ahead of South Korea’s 7% growth. The export expansion is being driven by a mixture of new model production – for example Fiat Chrysler’s Jeep Compass – and possibly concerns about the renegotiation of NAFTA. Both Fiat Chrysler and Ford, whose exports jumped 46.1%, send almost all their output to the U.S.
