German Exports to Shift into Higher Gear After Slow September

China 3048 Cons. Discr. - Autos 1247 Germany 267 Trade Balance 935 U.S. 5399

Germany’s export increase of 1% in September on a year earlier was worse than expected, and came after a jump of 4% in August. A return to growth in October is possible. Panjiva data shows seaborne exports to the U.S. climbed 12%, while export managers’ expectations for new orders have reached their highest since January 2014. This is being driven by the automotive sector – the net balance of positive expectations jumped to 21% from negative 7%. This is already being seen in the export figures, with U.S. auto and parts imports 18% higher in October on a year earlier.
