General Motors has committed to ‘inshoring’ 550 jobs from parts suppliers in Mexico, including axle manufacturing. Panjiva data shows its main supplier of the parts from Mexico is American Axle, though exports only appear to have started in June and totalled $75 million to November 30. Total exports of axles from Mexico to the U.S. reached $5.03 billion in the past 12 months, and had fallen for 11 months until October before jumping 24% in November. Other suppliers include Dana, GKN and Nissan’s spinoff Jatco.
