India Dials Up Domestic Smartphones as Component Imports Surge

India overtook the U.S. to be the second largest market for smartphone sales in the third quarter. That followed a 23% growth in shipments. Samsung and Xiaomi led sales with a combined 47% market share. Imports of completed handsets fell 9% in dollar terms, Panjiva data shows, likely reflecting increased local production as well as lower-end equipment imports.
