The logistics industry largely avoided the surprise reduction in employment seen across the U.S. in September. Economists had expected a rise in non-farm payrolls of 80,000, they dropped by 33,000 as a result of disruption from Hurricanes Irma and Harvey. Employment in six of the seven logistics sectors tracked by Panjiva increased. Waterborne employment grew the quickest, with a 1.1% monthly growth trimming the annual decline of 0.2% to its slowest since January.
