Lumber Leaps as Canadians Await Commerce Case

The price of U.S. lumber futures has climbed 28% since the start of 2017 and reached its highest since February 2005. That may be the result of concerns that a new softwood lumber agreement with Canada will not be delivered, and that tariffs may be introduced in a preliminary decision from Commerce due by April 24. Panjiva data shows that U.S. imports in February from Canada were 15% below their September peak.
