Maersk’s Brazilian container-line operations have been held back by overbooking by exporters that are taking a conservative stance to capacity after strikes earlier in the year. That’s come at the same time as a decline in demand with Brazil’s containerized exports. Volumes fell by 6% on a year earlier in the second quarter of 2018. MSC fared worst with an 18% drop vs. Maersk’s 4% decline while Hapag-Lloyd did best with a 10% improvement.
