The tragic fire aboard the Maersk Honam has led the shipper to redefine its hazardous cargo stowage patterns. While that may not make a major difference to overall traffic it may require extra time at ports. Hazardous shipments accounted for 1.5% of all U.S. seaborne containerized freight in the past 12 months, and increased by 7% (the same rate as general freight) on a year earlier.
