A political “agreement in principle” regarding the broad terms of a new NAFTA deal is unlikely before this week’s Summit of the Americas, following a three-way meeting of Minister Freeland, Secretary Guajardo and Ambassador Lighthizer last Friday. That would be despite a “more intensive phase of engagement” and further trilateral meetings to come.
