The U.S. has decided to retain tariffs against imports of stainless steel plate in coils from Belgium, South Africa and Taiwan for another five years. U.S. imports of the products concerned increased 16% in the 12 months to October 31 on a year earlier, Panjiva data shows. Imports from Taiwan are still 20% of the total, but the growth – which accelerated to 40% in the past three months on a year earlier – came from French and Vietnamese importers. The latter made negligible supplies before 2014, and have become prominent in other steel products where tariffs have been implemented.
