Indian Exports of Peas Have a Chance, For a While

A global oversupply of dried legumes (lentils and peas) has led to a 30% drop in market prices, resulting in a growth in exports from India. That’s been the result of over-planting, particularly in Canada, rather than falling demand. Indian imports climbed 20% year-to-date on a year earlier in dollar terms, with supplies led by Australia and Canada (60% together). Exports have started to expand, rising 54% on the third quarter on a year earlier, but are just 7% the value of imports so far.
