Chinese electronics suppliers are already planning to shift their supply chains as American duties on exports expand. Pegatron has joined Quanta in outlining plans to move production out of China to other centers – including Mexico, Taiwan and India – for U.S.-bound supplies. America had already become a less important market for Pegatron’s Chinese exports with growth in the first quarter of 9% vs. a global total of 31%. That was driven by a 16% drop in phones shipped to the U.S. in February and 26% in March, admittedly against the backdrop of slowing U.S. smartphone imports.
