Pemex and Aeromexico May Be Key to Guajardo’s NAFTA Surplus Aim

Mexican Economy Minister Ildefonso Guajardo has said the country is open to “rebalancing” its trade surplus with the U.S. via “trade expansion” as part of NAFTA talks. This should mean increased U.S. exports to Mexico. Panjiva analysis of the top 500 U.S. export lines globally and to Mexico show aerospace, healthcare and energy as three areas where Mexico is under-represented. Moving to the U.S. average per country in those three areas could increase its Mexico-bound exports by 8%. That is equivalent to 30% of the current trade deficit.
