Rebar Investigation Fails to Demolish Imports

The U.S. Department of Commerce has ruled that manufacturers of steel rebar in Japan, Taiwan and Turkey dumped their products in the U.S. at below cost. Margins of up to 209% were assessed, though tariff orders won’t be issued until July at the earliest. That rate of investigation may pickup under Secretary Ross. Panjiva data shows shipments have not yet fallen significantly. Total U.S. imports fell 15% in December vs. September before the case was launched, but are still 13% higher than a year earlier.
