Brazil’s automotive export boom continued in June, with a 40.9% jump in vehicle shipments on a year earlier, ANFAVEA data shows. That was the eighth straight month of growth, and brought the second quarter total to 48.1% higher than a year earlier at 200,178 vehicles exported. Commercial vehicles outperformed passenger cars, rising 59.8% to a new high in the month vs. 37.1% for cars.

Panjiva analysis of over 660 manufacturer-country export pairs shows only 4.4% of shipments go to the U.S. That should protect Brazilian factories from the marked slowdown in imported vehicle sales, as outlined in Panjiva research of July 4.
Volkswagen is the largest exporter, with 16.4% of total shipments. Half of these are shipped to Mexico, though the Kombi van is also exported by third parties to the U.S. and Europe. The single biggest pairing is shipments by Peugeot-Citroen to Argentina, which accounted for 12.2% of total exports, which relates to its 208, 2008, C3 and Aircross models.
Daimler’s exports are mostly to Argentina and the Persian Gulf, and involve C-Class and GLA production since September 2016. Finally, Renault will also have grown its exports as production of the Captur has taken over from the previously cancelled Clio 2.
