Canadian ports saw another month of handling growth in January. On the west coast the Port of Prince Rupert experienced a 27% rise in volumes on a year earlier as the commissioning of new DP World facilities continued to help. Imports expanded more slowly than exports, but still took regional market share from Seattle/Tacoma, which dropped 13%. Montreal also expanded, by 13%, but had more in common with U.S. east coast ports with import growth of 26% outstripping exports’ 2% rise.
