A new UN Security Council resolution seeks to cut North Korean exports of coal by 62% and ban exports of copper, nickel and silver. Panjiva data shows China’s imports from North Korea totalled $2.4 billion in the 12 months to September 30, having fallen 6% vs. the previous 12 months. Coal accounted for 42% of the imports, and the three metals 0.5%. Should the UN resolution succeed, it could cut China’s imports from North Korea by 26%.
