The shipbuilding industry saw a turnaround in March after its worst month since 2008 in February. Panjiva analysis shows exports of new vessels from China, Japan and South Korea improved 4% than a year earlier, bringing the first quarter inline with the same period in 2016. The improvement came from a 14% rise in sales by South Korea. The outlook there is brighter after Daewoo Shipbuilding’s rescue. China faces the challenge of a new low in orderbooks, while Japanese sentiment is the worst since June 2013.
