Container handling through Singapore jumped by 17% on a year earlier in October, the fastest rate of expansion since January 2010. Steady growth in trade across Asia has helped, though recent business surveys suggest that may slow. Oil industry growth is also strong, setting a new record of 20.8 million tons after rising 6%. Singapore does not appear to have seen a significant impact of traffic diversions through the Panama Canal. U.S.-inbound traffic to LA/Long Beach climbed 31% on a year earlier, while the total increased by just 1%.
