Spain’s trade collapsed in July with exports falling by 9.1% – the fastest rate since October 2009. While partly due to fewer working days (seasonally adjusted there was a 4% decline) weakness in the automotive sector and in exports to North America were to blame. The latter may turn around – Panjiva data shows seaborne shipments jumped 32% in August on a year earlier.
