Maersk has completed the first Trans-Arctic container vessel sailing to Europe, making real the potential threat to volumes shipped via the Suez Canal. That comes as the Canal is also facing increased competition from Asia-Europe rail services as well as the Panama Canal for Asia-U.S. east coast routes. There’ll likely be a reduction in seasonality.
