The U.S. House of Representatives has voted to extend sanctions against Gazprom’s Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline in Europe. The extension of existing measures, under the National Defense Authorization Act, could worsen relations with the EU. Germany’s Defense Minister, Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, stated that “these are not in accordance with international law”. There are likely to be commercial as well as defense issues at play.
