Tariff Quote Watch: Greif May Need to Give Chinese Bag Suppliers to Sack to Beat Tariffs

Greif Inc. reported fiscal 4Q EBITDA that was 7.1% lower than analysts’ expectations, in part due to “customers’ product migration to try to offset” tariff regulations on Chinese exports by the U.S. according to CEO Peter Watson. The decline in U.S. imports from China can be seen in a 34.2% slide in seaborne shipments in the three months to Oct. 31 vs. a year earlier while the new fiscal quarter doesn’t look much better with a 34.3% drop in November.
