Tariffs complicate chassis supplies in congested logistics network

The ongoing imbalance in U.S. logistics networks is partly due to a shortage of chassis for hauling containers away from seaports. While port suppliers have committed to increasing supplies, U.S. manufacturing may also have been beset by alleged dumping of supplies from China, the subject of a recent U.S. International Trade Commission investigation. U.S. imports of chassis dropped by 22.5% year over year in 2020 in part due to factory closures linked to the pandemic.
