The Thai government is planning to implement non-tariff barriers against Chinese electric vehicle exports, in part to protect its own plans for building up a domestic EV manufacturing business. That undermines a key part of the RCEP trade deal – namely increased trade in goods through lower tariff and non-tariff barriers – before talks are even complete.
