The U.S. ITC has received a petition to investigate Spanish olive exports. The case is somewhat unusual in that there are only two other food investigations currently, both of which (pistachios and garlic) are quinquennial reviews rather than new cases. The case is also unusual in that U.S. imports have been falling – by 25% on a year earlier in the past quarter in total, with those from Spain falling 14%. Import values have also been increasing, by 5% in the past quarter on a year earlier. It is not clear, therefore, that exporters from Spain have changed their behavior recently.
