The EU/U.S. TTIP trade deal is probably “in the freezer” according to the EU Trade Commissioner, which is not a surprise given prior controversy about the deal and the difficulty of passing CETA. The Trump administration’s initial focus is more likely to be on NAFTA and Asia. Trade between the U.S. and the EU needs a kick-start. EU exports to the U.S. fell 3% in September, and 1% in the 12 months to September 30, while U.S. exports to the EU are doing only slightly better.
