A decision to allow imports of Chinese citrus fruits by the U.S. Department of Agriculture has drawn the ire of U.S. Senators Rubio and Scott (R-FL) who believe the allowance has “unnecessarily occurred” during the COVID-19 pandemic and could hurt U.S. farmers. China’s global exports of citrus fruits reached $1.26 billion in 2018 but shipments to the U.S. were effectively zero.
