Underwear Imports Showing Holes, August Shines Through

Bangladesh 41 Cons. Discr. - Apparel 530 Sri Lanka 15 Vietnam 412

U.S. apparel imports have slowed down recently, with summer and winter outerwear imports falling. Underwear has been no different, with a 12% drop in July, with women’s wear declining quicker than men’s. Yet, August may show an improvement of 7% overall, led by menswear. Regionally, Honduras has lost nearly half its exports of menswear to the U.S., and Bangladesh 9% of its womenswear, to regional rivals El Salvador and Sri Lanka respectively. Among suppliers, both Victoria’s Secret and Hanesbrands have markedly lower imports.
