USTR Cuts Oroza’s Illicit Timber Exports, Indirect Shipments Must Be Tracked

The USTR has instructed Customs and Border Protection to block Peruvian timber exports by manufacturer Oroza. That’s a result of illegal logging within Oroza’s supply chain. Panjiva data shows Oroza’s exports from Peru peaked at 4,630 tons in the third quarter of 2014, while direct shipments to the U.S. ended in August 2015. There has been a resurgence recently with Oroza shipping 512 tons to Mexico and the Dominican Republic in the past three months. Some of those volumes may be indirectly U.S.-bound.
