U.S. underwear imports may have turned a corner. After falling 4% in the three months to October 31 on a year earlier they increased 1% in November. This was driven by a 24% jump in briefs, though brassieres were still 8% down. This late recovery in imports has occurred elsewhere in apparel and other gift-giving sectors. It may be due to inventory restocking as well as improved sales. L Brands’s November sales increase, and a 32% increase in its Victoria’s Secret brand imports suggest a mixture of the two is likely.
