The apparel industry has been a rare example of declining exports for China. Exports of the top 50 apparel and footwear product categories fell 14% in the past year vs. three years earlier. Reduced shipments of dresses/skirts (knit-type material) cut $9 billion from exports alone, with sales of jerseys/pullovers having fallen 20% and sports shoes by 17%.
