U.S. imports of mountain-sports equipment are not doing well this year. Skiing and snowboarding equipment imports fell 18% on a year earlier in September. Imports in the three months through September 30 – the biggest three months of the year – were the worst for that period since at least 2007. Retailers may be anticipating customers becoming more risk-taking. Snowboarding equipment imports were 17% higher in September than a year earlier and goggles were 16% higher while jackets dropped 26%.
