15 Month Global Container Growth Streak May Be Near An End

Corp - Ports 909 Global 1391 Mode - Airfreight 182 Mode - Containerized 1524 Mode - Seaborne 1845

Container handling at ports in 13 countries tracked by Panjiva climbed 9% in July vs. a year earlier, with the quarterly total breaching 35 million TEUs for the first time. That was a 15th straight increase, but lagged the 11% growth in airfreight. Mexico led the gains with a 12% expansion, but will likely struggle in August and September due storms and an earthquake. U.S. handling growth of 9% may also slow due to the storms. China meanwhile expanded 10% but there are signs of export activity slowing.
