The U.S. trade deficit is in the political cross-hairs currency following the election debates. The advance figure due on September 29 is likely to increase according to economists. The trade data is supportive. Seaborne imports reached their highest in August since at least July 2007, rising 4.4% on a year earlier and 7% on the month, Panjiva data shows. This was driven mostly by purchases of European goods. Data from six airports suggest airfreight was unchanged on the month but higher on a year earlier.
