A Tale of Three Cities as Long Beach’s Malaise Holds California Back

Container handling through California’s big three ports fell 2.2% year over year in May. That was largely the result of a 16.6% drop in imports to Long Beach after Cosco Shipping cut back its volumes at the port. Imports also underperformed exports for the first time in nine months. The outlook for the ports is poor with both Oakland’s and Los Angeles’ managers having struck a downbeat tone – LA expects revenues to fall 1.9% this year.
