The first virtual meeting between President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) and President Joe Biden has yielded a cooperation agreement but no commitments for U.S. supplies of vaccines to Mexico. The Biden administration noted ahead of the meeting that “the administration’s focus is on ensuring that every American is vaccinated”. Mexico will therefore need to rely on its own purchases and the Covax program. The U.S. only accounted for 10.0% of Mexican vaccine imports in 2020 with Europe representing 60.0%.
