The European Union will soon impose duties of up to 33% on exports of hot-rolled flat steel products from four countries including Brazil. Exports from Brazil initially increased after the case was launched in July last year, reaching a peak of 191,700 tons in the quarter to September 30. Since then they have fallen 85%. In the meantime exporters including ArcelorMittal’s local division have found new markets in Turkey, Vietnam and the UAE to make up for some of the lost sales.
