Better Out than In as Oakland Exports Accelerate

Corp - Ports 909 Logistics 476 Mode - Containerized 1524 Mode - Seaborne 1845 U.S. 5399

The Port of Oakland’s container handling increased 2% on a year earlier in October as a result of a 12% rise in exports. That was the eleventh increase this year, and shows improved efficiency as total loaded volumes increased 6% while empties fell 11%. While it has underperformed the national average for imports, Panjiva data shows, it has outpaced scale- and regional-peer Seattle with import growth of 5% vs. Seattle’s 5% decline. Investment by TraPac will build capacity, but lumber imports may drop depending on an ongoing trade case.
