Container handling through port facilities in Singapore climbed 23% on a year earlier in February. While the timing of the lunar new year holiday likely helped, that was nonetheless the fastest rate of growth since at least 2003. An increase in average vessel size / transfers per vessel calling at the port helped, with the number of vessels transiting having increased by a more modest 10%. The outlook isn’t all bright though, with trade volume sentiment in China now in negative territory. Meanwhile oil volumes through the port fell for a third month, by 10%.
