Boks Bounce Back as South African Container Handling Rises

South African ports’ container handling increased 6% in May on a year earlier. That was the sixth straight month of growth, and led by a 12% rise in international exports. In turn it should mean the 4% rise in the value of exports nationally in April is repeated in May. Shipments to the U.S. that landed in May fell 3%, but should increase in June as May’s exports from South Africa arrive. MSC and Maersk remain dominant on South Africa-to-U.S. routes with an 80% market share in the past quarter.
