Busan An Unlikely Loser From the Trade War

The port of Busan in South Korea has seen a decline in traffic as a result of reduced transiting shipments from China to the U.S., due to the ongoing U.S.-China trade war. The port had previously seen a surge in shipping last December, likely due to a pre-tariff increase acceleration in traffic. U.S. seaborne imports from China that were routed through South Korea fell 9.3% year over year in July, Panjiva data shows, following a 7.6% slide in 2Q.
