Freight volumes imported through California’s airports were 9% higher than a year earlier in August, the fastest growth since March 2015. This comes before any effects from Hanjin Shipping’s financial problems – these may help in September. California’s seaports did not do so well, with growth of 0.4% resulting from Long Beach’s loss of share of traffic from China. Nonetheless, the Panjiva Combined Cargo Index for California in August increased 4%, lagging the southeast region but taking it to its highest level since March 2015.
