Canada’s international trade fell 2.9% year over year in October after a 5.1% drop in September. Exports were the main driver with a 4.9% dip in October led by an 8.2% drop in shipments to the U.S. The main culprits were lower crude oil prices and a 15.5% slide in U.S. imports of automobiles from Canada. Looking regionally, Canada’s export decline was slower than the 7.7% drop in exports from the U.S. Both did worse than Mexico where exports rose by 2.9%, ironically due to a 13.7% jump in exports of autos to the U.S. led by Fiat Chrysler.
