The Port of Charleston’s container handling increased 3% vs. a year earlier in October. This included a 19% drop in empty container handling as exports increased 10%. The latter was the fastest rate of growth since February 2015. Imports climbed 6%, led by a 32% jump in imports from Hong Kong and China, Panjiva data shows. This probably resulted from increased shipments via the Panama Canal, which likely handled 17% more volumes in October.
